TAP MD is a program designed to help talented high school students “tap” into their potential to fulfill careers in medicine. Students apply in the fall of their junior year and the program runs on a calendar year (from January of one’s junior year through December of one’s senior year of high school. 190 students have graduated from the annual program total and in 2017 we have a class size of 48 students from Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana! Students attend monthly+ experiences throughout the year and are exposed to a variety of specialties, practice settings, information about medical school and more! To enter this competitive career exploring program, students must be strong academically, motivated, mature, dependable AND have a positive attitude. The program has an ultimate goal that over 50% of our students will pursue a career in medicine after the program.

Year One (2011): 8/14 students indicated that they were going to pursue med school (57%).

Year Two (2012): 18/25 indicated that they are going to pursue med school (72%).

Additional Program Notes…

The TAP MD program is an initiative of Cincinnati MD Jobs that originated through the Greater Cincinnati Health Council (which is now The Health Collaborative). With our goal to increase the physician, nurse practioner and physician assistant landscape in our medical community, working with TAP MD is a natural fit! This physician pipeline program is just one more way we hope to increase the number of future Tristate urban and rural physicians. We’ve been proud to lead this program in a variety of wonderful experiences since 2014. To visit our Facebook page, click HERE.

For the last four years, the TAP MD program has had a physician champion, Tayyab S. Diwan, M.D. We thank him for his crucial role in helping students find opportunities & providing them with our kick-off experience each year!

Additional thanks to our 2016 TAP MD Health Care Partners: Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati, Atrium Medical Center, Center for Respite Care, The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Center for Simulation and Research, Dearborn County Hospital, TriHealth, UC Health – University of Cincinnati Medical Center and University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. An extra special thanks to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for being a financial sponsor of our program, as well.
